THE NEW BRIDGE BARON!

Review by Gerald Rose in the Costa Blanca News in his column "Bridge with Rozi"

The "Great Games Products" group, at 7825 Tuckerman Lane, Suite 206, Potomac, MD 20854, U.S.A. - GAMES-4-U, Telephone (300) 299-9005, eMail:- Marketing@BridgeBaron.com have sent me the update of Bridge Baron to review.

The original Bridge Baron is the only five time winner of the World Computer Bridge Championships. The American Contract Bridge League rates Bridge Baron as "The most popular computer program" and quite rightly so.

1) Check out this exciting list of features offered in Bridge Baron and make your own decision!
2) Bridge Baron is the only five time winner of the World Computer Bridge Championships.
3) There are two billion random hands to play, but every hand is re-creatable.
4) You can get hints on both bidding and play at any time.
5) The program is written so that you can use as your basic system - Standard American with the five card major (Now Standard European), The Two-Over-One game force, Acol and La Majeure Cinquieme.
6) The more than 35 conventions include Ghestem, Checkback Stayman, Landy, The Multi-coloured 2 Diamonds, Mini-Multi, Multi-Roman, Ogust, D.O.N.T., Astro, Benjamin 2 Bids (Benjaminised Acol) and New Minor suit forcing.
7) By incorporating the conventions that you choose, you can practice them on millions of different deals.
8) You are able to compete in Bridge Tournaments at the highest level and receive scores based on the actual Tournament results, including The American Bridge Championships in Indianapolis, and The Spring 1993 North American Bridge Championships in Kansas City. Not just selected hands but all the hands from every session There are 7 different majors with between 10 and 16 sessions each.
9) When you have exhausted all of these great tournamets, for a small fee you can apply to Great Games Products for more as they become available - an endless supply of great and challenging hands.
10) At any time during your play in one of these major events you can find out where you stand in relation to the rest of the field. Should you be interupted and have to leave the program before you have completed a session, the program remembers you and will let you finish the session taking into account the hands you have already played. What a thrill when, at the end of a 30 hand session, you find yourself in the top spot!
11) There are 96 deals where you can test your declarer play designed by the great Easley Blackwood himself.
12) If you are dubious about the right bid and would like to know how Bridge Baron chose the bid that it recommended, there is a bidding Flowchart. Really clever stuff.
13) Having realised that you have made a mistake, you can take back a bid or a play.
14) Both "Rubber Bridge" and "Duplicate" scoring modes are available.
15) The program is extremely user friendly and is for Windows 95/98/2000, Me, NT4.0, XP and Machintosh/iMac
16) If you have "Windows" you can load the program in English, French, German or Spanish (All on one CD), so this would make the perfect gift if you have a foreign speaking, bridge playing friend.
17) With exception of people with the Machintosh/iMac you can play with other Bridge Baron owners on line.

All of this for a mere $59.95 plus $6.00 postage. Even better, if you already own a prior version of Bridge Baron, you can get the update for just $29,95 plus $6.00 postage.

I very rarely rave over computer bridge programs, finding them predictable and boring, but this program is something special and certainly has my vote!
