Tips on Creating Lists of Deal Numbers

The Deal Generator allows you to select deals meeting specified point-count and distribution criteria. You can also select deals conforming to particular bidding sequences. If you create deals conforming to particular bidding sequences, then the deals that you generate depend on the bidding conventions that North and South are using, as well as the bidding conventions that East and West are using.

From the main Bridge Baron screen, click on Tools and then click on Deal Generator. Specify the point requirements (high-card and/or total) for each hand, the suit distribution of each hand, the dealer, a bidding sequence, and/or the bidding conventions you wish to be active during the deal generation. You may also specify the number of deals you wish to generate (the default is 10), and the seed number, which is the number of the deal at which the search for deals meeting your criteria will begin.

When you have finished entering your criteria, click on Run. As each matching deal is found, its number will appear in the Deals window. There will also be a running count of the number of deals tested and the number of valid deals found. When finished, write down the list of deal numbers. (Or if you'd like to print them, save them to a text file, by clicking the "Save" button and then print the contents of the file using the Notepad)

Practice Bidding Conventions

You can also generate deal numbers that will correspond to deals where certain pre-specified conventions or near misses appear ("false deals or near misses" - deals in which it looks like the convention should be bid, but it shouldn't).
