Problems
playing online with a computer with a ‘real’ IP address
Below we have listed the most common problems people are encountering, please try to find which of the described cases applies to you and see if the given suggestion solves your problems. If you cannot find a case that applies to you, or if the given suggestions do not work for you, please contact us at support@bridgebaron.com In general if you have a ‘real’ IP address and your friend has a ‘fake’ IP address you want to be the one hosting the game! Case 1. You have a Bridge Baron 15 and you are trying to connect to a host, once you are connected you get the error: Unable to join the game. Joining games currently in progress is not allowed. You are being returned to the main menu. Probable cause: either you or the host do not have the latest version of Baron 15 available. Suggestion: You should both (you and the person who was hosting) leave the table, then click on File and select “Check for Bridge Baron 15 Updates” – this will update you to the latest version available! Case 2. You have a ‘real’ IP address on your computer and your Bridge Baron can host games, and can connect to some hosts without a problem, but you have problems connecting to other hosts. Probable cause: your friend that you cannot connect to is behind a router or a firewall. Or he/she is giving you the wrong (her ‘fake’ IP address). Suggestions: Try hosting the game yourself and have your friend join this would very likely solve your problem. However, if you still cannot connect, have your friend read the entire online play section and try to identify his/her problem. Case 3. You have a ‘real’ IP address but you cannot host or connect to any host, even when they have given you their ‘real’ IP address. Probable cause: you have a firewall on your computer or cable modem or DSL router, etc. Suggestions: First try to find out if you are using a firewall – Windows XP Service Pack 2 has a firewall build into it, application like: Black Ice, ZoneAlarm, Norton Internet Security, McAfee Firewall, etc. are in effect firewall applications, if you are using some kind of a wireless access point or router they usually have a firewall build into them. Please refer to the software or hardware manual ! To further identify the obstacle first try completely disabling the firewall for a moment, then if you are able to connect you will be certain that the problem is in the firewall. If that is the case, disconnect the Baron and reactivate your firewall. Please check out the list of ports the different versions of the Baron are using and try to open those ports in your firewall (This site has some suggestions on how to open ports with different firewalls). After you open the ports try connecting again. Case 4. You have a ‘real’ IP address, and you are trying to play at GameSpy using Bridge Baron 14 and when you create a table you get the “port 6500” error. Probable cause: you have a firewall on your computer or cable modem or DSL router, etc. Suggestions: First try to find out what kind of firewall are you using: Windows XP Service Pack 2 has a firewall build into it, application like: Black Ice, ZoneAlarm, Norton Internet Security, McAfee Firewall, etc. are in effect firewall applications, if you are using some kind of a wireless access point or router they usually have a firewall build into them. (This site has some suggestions on how to open ports with different firewalls). When you create a table at GameSpy, the GameSpy servers try to figure out if you have a firewall installed on your network, so just opening the ports in your firewall will not be sufficient. You will have to allow access to your network for some of the GameSpy servers namely: 207.38.8.24 – 207.38.8.38 and allow ports 1200 to 30000 for them. After you open the ports to GameSpy servers try creating a table again and see if you get the “port 6500” error. |
